“Lights, Camera, and Action!! It’s that time of year again for a show where our incredibly hardworking drama students are able to showcase their talent and creative outlets. This weekend, Once On This Island, which also has been performed on Broadway, is coming to Dover High.

The lead roles of Tia Moune, played by Abria Pegues, and Daniel, played by Eli August are supported by Jayda Young and Joshua August, as Tia’s parents, and the Island Gods, played by are Rhyan Pierce, Bella Shade, Avery Young, and Emma Zimmerman. Teachers Ms. Greene and Ms. Hess are co-directing the show. “It is a fairly young cast, but they are really hungry to do well and want to continuously improve. I couldn’t ask for more!” Hess expresses about working with the students.

“Once On This Island shares the journey of Ti Moune from little girl to young woman in love,” Hess shared, “Ti Moune decides to follow her heart and venture away from the comfort of her loving parents in search of Daniel, the young man with whom Ti Moune has fallen in love. With the help of the island Gods, Ti Moune sets out on her quest for love and belonging in a world divided by the haves and the have nots.”

The acting and musical talents of our students will be shared, but so will the influences of Mr. Garrett George and Mr. Brad Whitenight with music, Ms. Carolyn Palmer with costumes, and Ms. Greene with choreography. “Ms. Greene has applied her extensive background in dance and theatre to both choreograph the show and work directly with Mr. George and Mr. Whitenight to bring together the dance and music,” said Hess.

Hess also added that, “The best part of working on this show, other than working with Ms. Greene, has been working with this group of students. They are a blessing.”

Once On This Island will be playing at Dover High School on February 9th and 10th at 7 pm. Doors open at 6:30pm and snacks and refreshments will be served at Intermission. Students and teachers will receive a discount with their school ID.

Come support Dover High School’s drama program this weekend for a production you won’t regret!
