This is a busy time of year for us administrators and our counselors as we are knee deep in preparing the master schedule for next year. It is almost hard to believe that summer is just 5 ½ months away! As I write this, Dr. Pinkett and Mrs. Tooles are at Central Middle School speaking to our rising freshman, the Class of 2022!
On Wednesday, January 31st, we are hosting our first FAMILY SCHEDULING NIGHT here at DHS; with two different start times 5:30 pm or 6:30 pm for your convenience. On this evening we will be speaking to families on the requirements for graduation and about the process for selecting courses. Students and families will also be able to tour classrooms of our different electives including our career pathways, Arts Academy, Physical Fitness & JROTC. A complete listing of our pathways is below. Families will then be treated to dinner, hosted by our own Culinary students, and have time to discuss what electives will be of the most interest to their child. Before leaving, students will select their top 3 choices.
Academic classes that include: English, Math, Science & Social Studies will be selected for our rising 9th graders through a process of data review and teacher recommendation. The DHS scheduling team will review SBAC scores, STAR reading & math assessments and speak to current 8th grade teachers on the best course options to fill the remaining courses on our 9th grader schedules. Final course selections will be sent home in June.
Career Pathways offered at DHS:
- Ag Science: Animal Science & Environmental / Natural Resources
