On July 27, 2017, 14 senior Senators graduated as part of our summer school program.

Dover High School and Capital School District are so proud of these students for being determined to finish their high school career with a diplom

In her address, Dr. Voshell reminded graduates of the importance of remembering that mistakes and failure only help us to grow. “B.F. Skinner once said, ‘A failure is not always a mistake.  It may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances.  The real mistake is to stop trying,’ she continued by explaining that, “I know many of you felt that this day, this graduation would not happen.  It would be too hard to catch up, too hard to keep at it after all of your peers had left, too hard to let our families or support systems down.  But today, I want to tell you that the real mistake would have been if you hadn’t kept coming back, to get the work done.  I know that I can speak on behalf of our entire staff here at DHS that we are so beyond proud of your perseverance, persistence and dedication to enduring these last few weeks to make today happen.  So despite that it may have taken a few weeks longer, you and the graduates from June are all back on the same starting line.  Receiving your diploma today provides so many opportunities for you tomorrow and as I say to all graduates, we truly believe your best is yet to come.”

Summer school is daunting and sometimes a reminder that mistakes and failures occurred, but to make the decision to keep going was the best decision these students could have made.
